TERMS OF CONVERSATIONAL COACHING:
There are a few rules that come with this coaching model. For most people they are easy to stick to. For a few they are nigh on impossible.
All of them come back to one thing:
INTEGRITY OF WORD
Being your word means sticking to your agreements; communicating clearly; telling me how you feel; being truthful; being open.
PRIVACY
I once had a client who was only happy to keep a journal if she didn’t have to share her findings with me. I asked her why she didn’t want want to include me in her process and her answer was, “because it’s private.” This type of attitude is absolutely fine. But there is no room for such privacy when you’re working with T.R.O.J.A.N Horse: if a doctor asked you to wee on a bit of pH paper and then you refused to share what colour the paper turned because you felt it was ‘private’, many would ask, “why did you go see the doctor in the first place?” And they’d be right.
BOOKING AND CANCELLATION
Sessions are weekly and last 90 minutes. My time is precious and when I secure a session-slot for you in my diary, I am honouring you. I trust that you to honour me in return. That means sticking to our agreed session time, being punctual, and giving me a minimum of 72 hours notice BY PHONE CALL NOT TEXT MESSAGE if you need to cancel or postpone your session. If you give less than 72 hours notice, I’m asking you to agree NOW that you will pay half the session fee as a cancellation fee, and if you don’t show up at all, that you will pay the full amount.
KEEPING YOUR W0RD
If you fall out of word, it’s not ideal but it’s also easily remedied. You simply send me a text message acknowledging that you have fallen out of word, apologising properly, and restating your agreement so that you and your word are back in integrity again. We always tidy up along the way. We don’t avoid difficult conversations, we manage our emotional triggers and we speak the truth.
LEAVING T.R.O.J.A.N HORSE
If something happens mid-relationship that causes you to want to leave T.R.O.J.A.N Horse, it is required that we have a closing conversation, over the phone, to completely close the container and release you from the purview of T.R.O.J.A.N Horse. This usually takes the form of a closing session, and it will be the last session you ever pay for. But it’s not O.K to just walk away from T.R.O.J.A.N Horse without closing the conversation.
These are the terms. They are a spiritual agreement of sorts. And they are for your protection more than anything else. They are not legally binding. They are not legally enforceable. But they are bound up with your integrity of word. And if you break your word with me, you are also breaking your word with yourself.
